The constant focus on 12 American cities at the center of negative headlines and gossip became a point of interest. Some of these reputations might surprise you, and others have well, earned their stripes.

Detroit, Michigan

The city has a bad rep and often comes at the top of this kind of list. Due to economic downturn, crime, and urban blight, the once-thriving center for the automotive industry has suffered.
