15 Overrated Attractions at the Mall of America That Waste Your Time
One of the largest shopping and entertainment complexes in the United States, the Mall of America brings hundreds of restaurants, shops, and attractions to the doorstep of some three million people annually who will feel as if they are treasure hunting.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a veteran MOA explorer, it’s easy to get sucked into spending hours at these attractions that promise excitement but deliver disappointment. Let’s take a look at some of these attractions that may not be worth your time.
American Girl Store

For most visitors, the American Girl Store might bring back some nostalgia or impress doll lovers, but it doesn’t deliver. The store’s exhibits and high prices are intended for a niche crowd, and the average shopper will scratch their head. Shoppers are often surprised to find that doll accessories cost about the same as food for a whole meal.
Mini Golf at Nickelodeon Universe

The course itself is a mini golf course and I wouldn’t pay the price tag for it; designs are basic and the challenges are limited. Golf course designer Mike Barrett says: “Mini golf is about creativity and challenge and unfortunately some indoor courses sacrifice that for convenience.”
Sea Life Aquarium

The Mall of America’s Sea Life Aquarium is aesthetic but visitors have complained that they felt underwhelmed by the amount of interaction and the small number of species on show. Visitors are also shocked by the steep ticket price compared to standalone aquariums.
Mirror Maze

The Mall of America’s mirror maze is a fun addition but visitors often complain it’s over too quickly and is somewhat underwhelming. To many, if you’ve seen one mirror maze, you’ve seen them all.
Rainforest Café

The Rainforest Café restaurant has magical decor but unfortunately, the magic doesn’t last when you try the food many comment that the food is just too underwhelming and not worth the long lines and the cost.
LEGO Store

The giant LEGO structures and insanely intricate displays are cool, but beyond that, it’s just a standard retail store. If you’re not buying a set, this stop can feel a bit more like window shopping. Toy industry expert Rachel Kim adds: Visually impressive, but there’s no substance to make you want to come back.
Butterfly Garden

Walking among butterflies is enchanting, but MOA’s version is usually crowded and lacks that tranquil experience you would expect. The space is limited, and admission fees are high; this is rather difficult to savor.
VR Experiences

Virtual reality at Mall of America can be hit or miss, and while virtual reality may sound exciting, it’s not always that way. Visitors have had glitches and long waits. This won’t be a mind-blowing experience if you’ve ever tried VR before.
FlyOver America

Flyover America is marketed as an immersive ride across America, an adventure, but most people leave disappointed. Visually impressive but the ride is so short it isn’t worth the cost.
Hard Rock Café

The Hard Rock Café in MOA is just another chain restaurant, but the name has big international clout. The food is at best forgettable, and the atmosphere certainly doesn’t capture the authentic rock and roll vibe the place is really famous for.
Carousel

Carousels are timeless, but this carousel is not special. It’s too easy and too far back in the park to be a memorable attraction. Perhaps you’d be left wondering why you paid for a ride that’s such a mall sideshow.
Escape Rooms

In theory, escape rooms are thrilling, but the Mall of America doesn’t always deliver. Participants report that many of the themes and puzzles are underdeveloped and lack cohesion. If you get frustrated trying to solve puzzles, don’t expect to be entertained.
SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge

This rollercoaster sure sounds exciting, but because it is such a short ride time and the wait is so long, thrill seekers will be unsatisfied. Many visitors were dissatisfied with how quickly the ride ended, a review of visitor feedback found. Waiting in line for mere seconds of action is hard to justify spending a chunk of your day doing.
Build-A-Bear Workshop

The Build-A-Bear Workshop at the Mall of America’s interactive store has its fans, but in the end, it’s a stuffed animal and it can be a money pit. For families on a budget, the excess upselling and add-ons can be too much. It’s cute, but you’ll probably get better value elsewhere.
Crayola Experience

Reviews indicate that the Crayola Experience is anything but a hands-on paradise for kids. Many parents are disappointed by overcrowding and repetitive activities. It may feel more like a glorified coloring session than a true experience.
