10 Most Dangerous States in America
Crime rates are different from state to state in the United States. There are some states which have lower crime level, as compared to other, which have notorious location in their territory where violence and property crimes are rampant. The safety of every state, is partly due to factors such as population density, socioeconomic conditions, strength of law enforcement features. Crime rates change all the time, so what might be true today might be different tomorrow, but some states just have more trouble than others.
To get a handle on why crime rates are so high in the states, you need to look at poverty, gang activity and drug use. The difficulty of the problem is further underscored by the fact that each state confronts different challenges. Today, let’s look at some of the most dangerous states in America.
California
The most populous state, California, has a crime rate that is due to several issues. Cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco have high rates of property crimes, gang violence, and homelessness all of which add to safety concerns. Urban areas often grapple with criminal activity, including the presence of organized crime and drug trafficking.
New Mexico
For years, New Mexico has been one of the most dangerous states in the country, and places like Albuquerque have high violent crime rates due to poverty, a failing justice system and the opioid epidemic. These factors together make it difficult to curb crime.
Louisiana
Murder, assault and robbery have been violent crime problems for Louisiana, but especially New Orleans. High crime rate is caused by gangs, drugs and economic inequality. The state also has a criminal justice system that is difficult to address crime effectively.
Alaska
Alaska is known for its natural beauty, it also reports some of the highest rates of violent crime, mainly in the city of Anchorage. Due to the state’s great size and the remoteness of some areas, law enforcement is unable to respond quickly and other problems such as domestic violence and substance abuse make the battle to reduce crime even more difficult.
Arkansas
Little Rock experiences high rates of both property and violent crime, reflecting a broader trend seen across Arkansas. Many parts of the state have struggled economically, there is drug abuse, and there are not enough resources for law enforcement to combat crime.
Missouri
Violent crime, including gang violence, drugs and gun violence, is a problem in Missouri, especially St. Louis and Kansas City. The problem is that the state’s poverty and racial inequality are major factors in its high crime rates, which makes it difficult to attack the problem head on.
Michigan
The high crime rates, especially in Detroit, which has a long history of crime due to manufacturing industry collapse ending in poverty. Crime is a continuing problem, even though the police are doing their best, with a large part of the population living in poverty.
Tennessee
While Tennessee struggles with high violent crime rates overall, Memphis stands out as one of the most dangerous cities in the country for such offenses. The state’s crime problems are driven by gang activity, drug trafficking, and poverty, while law enforcement continues to face challenges in addressing them.
Nevada
Most of Nevada’s crime issues are concentrated in Las Vegas with regard to property crime, drug abuse and organized criminal activity. Law enforcement efforts have been further complicated by the state’s high transient population complicating the prevention of criminal behavior in the state.
South Carolina
In South Carolina, violent crime is on the rise, especially in cities including Columbia and Charleston. The state’s reputation for being dangerous is due to gun violence, gang activity and drug related offenses, and poverty and unemployment also contribute to the problem being worse.
