The Queen Mary was once a luxury ocean liner, now it’s a permanent fixture in Long Beach as a floating hotel. The ship saw more than its fair share of deaths during the time it was at sea. Guests now say they’ve seen the ghost of a young girl by the pool and hear phantom footsteps in the corridors. It is said that the engine room is hotbed of paranormal activity.

The Crescent Hotel’s spooky reputation is well deserved and it’s been dubbed “America’s Most Haunted Hotel.” A long history of ghost sightings, this former hospital turned luxury resort has a long history of ghost sightings. One of the most often claimed apparitions is the ghost of a former nurse, who is supposed to be still wandering the hallways. If you stay in Room 218, you’ll also get some unexplained bumps in the night.

Harvey Parker, the hotel’s founder, is supposedly still wandering the halls looking out for his guests—even though his ‘corpse’ has been dead for more than a century. Guests have also said they’ve seen the reflection of a woman in mirrors, only for her to disappear when they turn around.

The Heathman Hotel is also a haunted hotel, right here in Portland, and not just that, but it’s a historic one. Guests in rooms on the third floor have reported seeing ghostly figures by their beds when they wake up. Some even say they hear knocks on the walls, and when they investigate, there’s no one there.

The Talbott Tavern, Kentucky

This tavern, built in 1779, has been a waystop for Abraham Lincoln and Jesse James and a host of other famous figures. It’s the ghostly residents that bring visitors back—or, more likely, run them away. Strangely enough guests have also been heard complaining of hearing weird noises, objects moving by themselves and even seeing spectral figures in the hotel’s bar area. Some say Jesse James himself haunts the tavern, and that in old photographs you can see his ghostly outline.

The Skirrid Mountain Inn, Wales

The Skirrid Mountain Inn is one of the oldest inns in Wales with a grim history. Once a courthouse where executions took place, it seems some of the condemned to die still linger. Others say they see shadowy figures moving across the rooms and claim to feel a choking sensation, as if they were being hanged, according to guests. If you ever make it, please don’t get a room with a noose.
